Parking Day

Parking day was a success. Tucson transformed 88 parking spots into parks, gardens, art, and much more to raise awareness of all the other things we could make of that space. It was Tucson's first year participating and we had more spots than any other city in the U.S. I'll be looking forward to seeing even more next year. Here are a few pics:

  2. yeah, me too! They were asphalt burgers. Creative, huh? They also had coolant ketchup and antifreeze mustard...and a tree made from tailpipes!

  3. And where did the excess cars go for the day? Perhaps driven up to Phx,taking an airport bus back to Tucson? We should try this in Prescott!

  4. Granny J- There were a few people that were mad about the loss of parking spaces, but overall most people were excited about the event. It was only about 1% of Tucson's parking. We were "parked" on University Avenue and it was surprising and hopeful to see how many bicyclists went by.

  5. Thanks for commenting on my blog! I love what the Landscape Architecture students did for Park(ing) Day. Which parking spot did you work on?

  6. Thanks....I actually worked on the lime green "urban heat island." We went around and found stuff that people were throwing away and put it together in a few hours. It wasn't quite as "put together" as some of the others, but we had a lot of fun doing it!
